Transforming Landscape
I found myself fortunate in 2016 when I landed on a two-hectare hillside plot near Pedralva, Portugal, part of a larger land collective. Over the years, I've faced both challenges and opportunities in this landscape, which ignited my mission of transformation. At first, I noticed subtle signs of erosion, especially during heavy winter rains that washed away vital rainwater. To tackle this issue, I dedicated myself to learning, completing a Permaculture Design Course in 2018.
However, in 2020, an unexpected forest fire devastated my home and workshop. Despite this setback, my commitment remained unwavering. The fire, though tragic, unveiled hidden erosion issues and provided a clean slate for earthworks. With the support of volunteers, I initiated the rebuilding process and designed strategies to manage rainwater runoff.
The journey of integrating landscape rehydration, soil regeneration, and reforestation has been a remarkable transformation for me. I'm eager to continue sharing my experiences and knowledge with fellow enthusiasts committed to regenerative practices.
As I move forward, the integration of landscape rehydration, soil regeneration, and reforestation remains at the heart of my mission.
My vision extends beyond my own property, as I now embark on acquiring an adjoining 8.5-hectare property known as Quinta do Horizonte. With Quinta do Horizonte, I aim to create a regenerative oasis, a demonstration center, and a hub for innovative agriculture methodologies. My journey has not only transformed my own land but also inspired others to join me in the mission to regenerate and restore landscapes in need of intervention.
